Rob's Nuclear Salsa
Ingredients:
2 tomatoes
1 medium onion
1 cup chopped cilantro (or 1 to 2 bunches)
1/2 cup chopped parsley (or 1/2 to 1 bunch)
1 lemon
4 cloves garlic
About 8 habanero peppers (green or orange or both)
About 5 jalapeno peppers (optional)
1/2 peach (optional)
Wear gloves before handling habanero peppers. If you insist on not wearing gloves, remember to wash hands with soap after handling before touch other parts of your body, e.g. rubbing your eyes or your arms, or your belly, or... You will feel strong burning sensations if you don't! I warned you...
Broil tomatoes until skin is getting blackened and falling off. Chop (squish, pulverize) tomatoes and place in large bowl. Dice onion, cilantro, parsley, garlic, peach, and habaneros finely and add. Squeeze juice of entire lemon into mixture. If desired, add diced jalapenos, or simply add the insides (seeds and pulp) and even a few spoons of crushed red pepper and a good dash of cayenne powder if you like. Chill. That's all!
Broiling the tomatoes is not strictly necessary, but simply adds flavor. Sauteeing a few peppers before dicing will also change the taste. Add other vegetables (e.g. corn, bell-peppers, etc.) or small amounts of sugar/salt/pepper to taste... A pinch of salt and pepper will be good.
Note: This is quite hot. Pretty darned hot. I like hot food the way most people like chocolate ice cream, and sometimes even I think it's hot. It's many, many, many times hotter than any of the salsas labelled hot in the grocery store, probably even latin-american/mexican stores, unless the proprietor has made it him/herself. The first day you eat it, you will burn your taste-buds, so for the next week, it will seem milder. You will probably be able to drink (spoonfuls of) Tabasco sauce with ease. Try it! Your taste buds should be back in a week or so. Eating this salsa is good prep for showing off your ability to eat hot food in the following few days. But don't eat too much at once without plenty of other foods, or your GI-tract will have its revenge in a few hours...
Despite its hotness, hopefully this salsa will have flavor. The cilantro, parsley, and peach will make things interesting, and the garlic and lemon juice are essential, if not as noticeable.
