Random Recipes appear here, especially Japanese specialties, but anything else which is a favorite, e.g. hot foods, desserts.

I've received a few requests for some Japanese dishes, and they're coming! Sorry about the delays, but I will visit home and will return with many Japanese recipes, most of these dishes from scratch! Including ramen, sukiyaki, cold somen (sauce from scratch too), miso soup, teriyaki (fish, beef, chicken), pickled cucumbers, and to top it all off, a whole slew of traditional new year's feast recipes-- these are the sort handed down through generations of mothers and daughters but recently the busy modern person has resorted to buying a lot of these pre-made at the store... recipes will include konbu, spicy lotus root with gobo, kinako mochi (okay, you don't really need a recipe for this), new year's soup, and kuri (chestnuts) with carrots. Very traditional... Look for these early Fall. Until then, get a hold of some fresh-made mochi. Just pop in your toaster oven and bake at 400 and watch them grow! Eat with sugar mixed with soy sauce, or dunk in boiling water until softened and roll around in 1 part sugar and 1 part kinako (yellow soy powder). Call your local Japanese Buddhist church, which may know where the local mochi tsuki (mochi making) is to be.
